So this was our finale lunch before flying back to Seoul from Jeju Island. I wanted to find a good place not too far from the airport (as my in-laws were getting tired from the traveling) and I was recommended to go to Sammi Raw Fish Restaurant (삼미횟집) by a friend that got a list of top foodie places from his workplace. There were so many seafood places in the area and I was SO glad I did prior research before coming. We paid 50,000krw per person (around $47 per person) and got a spectacular FEAST. I am definitely coming back with my parents. The seafood was of amazing freshness and quality, and we had a wide variety of dishes, none of which disappointed. SUCCESS. Brownie points for me, as the best daughter-in-law ever.
EVERYONE told me that I have to eat Black Pork belly BBQ in Jeju Island, so I asked around for recommendations for weeks before flying over. I was recommended to Tohpyunggol (토평골 식당) by my middle school friend Lina, who’s originally from Jeju Island. They specialize in black pork bbq, as you can see from the menu, the only options are Charcoal BBQ Black Pork Belly (흑돼지 숯불구이) & Green Pea Bean Paste Stew (푸른콩 된장찌개). My friend always comes here with her family when she’s in town and it seemed like a very local place (not touristy, mostly old ajussis from town eating there). It was not a fancy nice place, expect to find a more humble location. Overall, I really liked it while my husband thought it was decent. So we’ll leave it up to you to judge when you visit!
Craving some good Korean food with a Jeju Island flavor, we were recommended to visit Cheonjee Restaurant at Shilla Hotel for dinner. It was drizzling outside so it was nice to know that we had a quality restaurant within the hotel. Unlike Seoul, in Jeju Island you have to drive everywhere with limited street lights (everything got so pitch dark outside) and we were too tired to venture far out. Thankfully, the food was absolutely delicious and we got the Korean flavors we were craving.
So this was our first time in Jeju Island and we got referred to this place by two of our good friends, Barbara and Dan. They said we had to try the omakase here and we are so glad we did! It was the perfect introduction to Jeju Island. It was on the pricier end, for around 110$ per person (120,000 krw) but definitely worth every penny. I was pleasantly satisfied with the taste, freshness, service, ambiance and smooth sake. We were a group of 5 (my husband (age 27), mother-in-law (50’s), grandmother-in-law (80’s), and grandmother-in-law’s sister (70’s), and me (age 28)) and we were all very satisfied with the course.
